Here is a comment from IMDB by a user called movieman_kev that I find to be spot-on.

A group of women live underground in a post-apocalyptic world, headed by the bed-ridden matriarical Sister Helen trying not to get caught as female slaves whenever they go topside to the surface. But there's dissension within their ranks. The girls are beautiful, but the story is deathly boring, and certain scenes seemingly go on forever. The acting is of the typical sub-par direct to late night cable variety. Too little sex for the soft-core flick crowd, too little plot or drama for the mainstream crowd. This flick just floats in the nether regions of mediocrity, the abyss of B-grade sludge that is inflicted upon the public far to often.

My Grade:D

Eye Candy: Esther Hanuka as Kate, Fawnia Mondey as Liz, Eva Machmajer as Miranda show everything, Various others get topless

"Down to the Bone," which won a Special Jury Prize at last year's Sundance Festival, is the kind of movie most independent films strive in vain to be: a small, beautifully faceted gem. Vera Farmiga gives a pitch-perfect performance as Irene, a mother of two who works as a supermarket cashier in upstate New York. Though she appears to be a competent employee and loving wife and mother, Irene's life is precariously built around a cocaine addiction. When she finds herself trying to cash her son's birthday check to pay off her dealer, Irene decides to check herself into rehab. But an affair with a charismatic male nurse (Hugh Dillon) threatens to drag her into the even more dangerous world of heroin.

This movie should be banned because, in my humble opinion, it incites people to do drugs. I mean, just watching Vera Farmiga snorting coke then taking her top off and touching herself is enough to make me want to snort some coke, too (last time I tried, the ice cubes got caught in my nose).

Jokes aside, Down to the bone is a great independent movie that tells the all-too-real story of a woman struggling to fight her drug habit. A hypnotic and thought-provoking movie (although at times it's hard to think when all the blood in your brain suddenly got transferred down to the boner), you should give this one a try.

Carlito's Way: Rise to Power (2005)

Carlito's way: Rise to power purports to be the prequel to Brian De Palma's Carlito's way. Apparently, this movie caused lots of outrages among fans of the original who view this as nothing but a cheap attempt to make some cash. Not surprising, since this B-grade, straight-to-video flick is full of cliches and cheesy dialogues. Cliches can be good, if used judiciously, but sadly that is not the case here. Jay Hernandez, while being a pretty decent actor, can't hold a candle to Al Pacino when it comes to being suave, cold-blooded gangsters.

About the only interesting moments in the whole movie are the cool but too brief appearances by the ever charismatic Luis Guzmán as a hitman. And, of course, the nude scenes.

As a routine gangster flick, it's not that bad, truth be told. But as a prequel to Carlito's Way, this is just a shameful mess. This one is best left unwatched, unless you're a die-hard fans of the genre. In that case, download it here:
