Excellent movie based on an award-winning book that the author himself deemed unadaptable. Well, he was proved wrong by Canadian scenarist Don McKellar and director Fernando Meirelles. This film is proof that you don't need special effects a la The day after tomorrow to make a great disaster movie because human nature is disastrous enough in itself.

Some brief but sweet nudity by Alice Braga and Julianne Moore.

This adaptation of the classic opera Carmen won 2 awards, including Best Actress for Paz Vega. Lots of films have been made from the story of Carmen but this one here is the best because, well, it's got the best pair of tits of them all :)

The scene where Don José kisses and caresses Carmen's naked corpse is similar in nature to scenes from Bad Timing (needed to be posted here) and Caligula.

Award-winning porn star Kelly Nichols indulges herself in a good, long bout of solitary pleasure in the bath, before being chased naked around her bedroom then shot to death with a nail gun. Well, at least the killer was decent enough to let her finish what she was doing first.

And by the way, I really like the fact that when she got nowhere to run, the girl offered herself to the killer, in exchange for her life. That right there is an original touch. They don't do that often enough in horror movies, if you ask me.

There is a remake in 2004 by Tobe Hooper, it's also very good. I'd heartily recommend watching both.
